And a barrel of Daisy Gold
Usual great trefor.net exec dinner last night. Got a little heated when we discussed Brexit so I had to move the conversation on. We were all cream crackered having been on our feet at Convergence Summit South all day. Food was a bit of a disappointment. They didn’t have any steaks and not enough steak and ale pies but we got by. I ended up with ham, egg and chips. Fine. I like ham egg and chips.
Adjourned to the bar afterwards drinking brandies and whiskies.
This morning is a beautiful Autumn day. I passed on my usual walk around Hampton Court as my new shoes are giving the back of my foot a bit of gyp. Instead sat in the lounge bar tapping away.
Now I’m sat doing booth duty at the ITSPA booth at Convergence Summit South. How did I get lumbered with this? Ah well. Just a question of deciding when is the right time to have the first beer. After lunch. Probs.
Looking forward to an abstemious time for the next three weeks. I’m currently not going anywhere until Madrid towards the end of October at which point it will be ten days away. Part of that will be with Anne which will be great.
I don’t eat chips that often – but I ended up having to make the same alternative choice of main course as yourself Tref, due to the woeful shortage of steak and ale pies. My eggs (2) were sunny side up, which is good but they were a little overcooked for my liking and they tasted of olive oil, not of egg. I’d have preferred them fried in a knob of organic butter with a dash of sunflower oil. Ham was okay but it wasn’t up to the same standard of taste and texture as the home-cured ham from my local farm shop. The tomato was topped with some sort of tomato relish – why? The chips were chunky-ish but a bit too dry, even when dipped into the relish. Yes, I agree that the food was a disappointment and both the choice of menu and standard of cooking doesn’t even come close to the standard of food available in the cafe of my local farm shop. It was very poor show for an old English inn, especially a 17th-century inn perched on the gate of one of England’s historic royal palaces. Their website states “We pride ourselves on excellent service and quality of food and drink and have recently won 2 national awards for our commitment to this.” Well, they should NOT be proud of the quality of food or service given to trefor.net exec diners last night. However, on the up side… I’m pleased to say that the lively conversation on Brexit (plus a few other “interesting” topics), kept me thoroughly entertained during the evening and took my mind off the chef’s culinary calamity. Hope your sore foot is not giving you too much gyp this afternoon. No doubt by now you will have enjoyed one or two beers from the barrel of Daisy Gold on the ITSPA booth… for medicinal purposes, of course!

Unlikely to return which is a shame. The pub has never really achieved what it might, perhaps because of the dearth of parking spaces on the ain road outside which is a shame. More than two Daisy Golds were consumed. 🙂

Also I think any claim on the website is likely to stem from previous ownership.
