Summer’s End

sun draws curtains

Autumn has arrived. It was as if a curtain was drawn over Summer and a change in the weather imposed in very short order.

Yesterday I was sat in blazing sunshine watching John play cricket at Carholme Cricket Club on the West Common. Then towards the end of the match a bank of cloud came across the sky to block out the sun. Now this morning it is drizzly and cool. I am still in shorts but also wearing a jumper. It is no longer thin shirt weather.

The flat roof man came around to look at doing the roof above John’s bedroom this morning. Someone dropped off a ladder and a load of roofing felt whilst we were out yesterday. It was too wet for him to work so he has retreated to fight another day.

I’ve been to Waitrose to forage for supplies. Tonight we are having meatballs in tomato sauce with tagliatelle and garlic bread. A nice treat for Anne upon her return from cousin Janette’s. We are supposed to have meat free Mondays but hey…

A busy enough week in prospect. Tomorrow I am in London for the ITSPA council and members meeting. Taking Tom and Hannah out to dinner afterwards. Then on Wednesday I’m catching the Eurostar to Brussels and thence to Antwerp for dinner with Netaxis and then an Oracle day on Thursday. Should be fun. A chance to wear one of my new jackets.

The drizzle has turned into that fine penetrating rain that is supposed to be very good for the garden It’s certainly getting a good soak. I like Autumn and look forward to the day when we need to light the fire. I am relaxed.

Flippin broadband connection seriously slow today. Trouble is I need a pc with an Ethernet connection to test it to make sure it isn’t the WiFi. We only have one very low spec Microsoft PC and I can’t find the power supply. It never gets used so gawd only knows what’s happened to it. At least there is a positive out of this. In looking for the power supply I came across the power supply for Anne’s Chromebook. I’ll just have to see if messing about with the channels makes a difference. The Virgin router claims always to choose the least congested WiFi channel.
